Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is coming up with a budget the only way to get assistance from your group?
A: No. Our group is limited in resources, which means your request will go into a queue for evaluation and prioritization along with other requests. A budget simply allows us to discus the possibility of hiring resources to complete the project for you.
Example: Summary of Work
Good Example:
We are currently in the process of designing a news and events site for the Epic users around the UW Medicine (UWP, UWPN, HMC, CUMG, etc.)
and, in the interest of accessibility, would like to publish this newsletter on the web.
I am told that IT Services has space that does not necessarily require domain accounts and would therefore be an ideal
place for us to publish this. Can you tell me how I would go about requesting/obtaining space (enough
for 9-15 pages, maybe some scheduling/event software showing upcoming events, minor graphics; content will change about 2/month)
and access to upload, modify, etc. our content? This content may be pdf files, word documents, etc.
- Opening sentence puts the request in context of the big picture.
- States number of new pages needed and specific types of content
- Mentions a requirement to modify content and frequency done.
- Mentions what type of functionality may be required (scheduling/calendar) in addition to content
Example: Objectives and Goals
Good Example:
Our main objective is to speed up throughput and accuracy in our department’s billing system workflow by, for one example, replacing our manual hardcopy based lookup of
CBT codes with a drop down menu populated by a database. We would greatly benefit from the use of edit
checks and notification (by email) that each batch of cases has been entered and accepted by the system successfully.
Bad Example:
A bad description is usually something vague like: “We need some web pages for our department. They need to be online by next week and should be for internal use.
Example: Job Titles/Descriptions
A collection of nurses (RN1) and physicians at the Anesthesiology Department.
Example: Business Requirements
- We have an organization of 12 people who will need a browser based, database driven input screen for our insurance billing data entry.
- The data will then be output to a file that will be read by the new Acme Billing System.
- It’s a relatively simple system requiring two screens at the most.
- The system needs to be available Mon through Fri from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- The users will use their IRIS accounts for authentication.
- It must also be easy to learn and use.
-
- All transactions need to be logged.
